Ratings: Weiner Pumps Up Fox With Resignation

Rupert Murdoch’s cable news outlet comes out on top with coverage of disgraced congressman’s swan song; CNN comes in third

Anthony Weiner has been very good to Fox News Channel — at least when he's in the process of resigning.

Fox came in first place in the cable ratings for its live coverage of the disgraced congressman's resignation on Thursday afternoon, according to data from Nielsen Media Research. The press conference, running from 2:15 to 2:30 p.m. ET, drew 1.5 million total viewers to the network, 383,000 of them in the key news demo of adults 25-54.

Following in a distant second was MSNBC, which attracted 586,000 total viewers (147,000 of them in the adults 25-54 demo) with its live coverage of the announcement. CNN, meanwhile, came in last, taking in 572,000 total viewers, with 136,000 in the demo.
