‘Ready Player One’ First Trailer Released (Video)

Comic-Con: The Spielberg-directed adaptation of the hit novel descended on Comic-Con

The next Steven Spielberg blockbuster was just revealed at Comic-Con, with Warner Bros. releasing a trailer for “Ready Player One” with the renowned director at the helm.

Based on the 2011 novel by Ernest Cline, “Ready Player One” concerns the Oasis, a virtual reality universe that humans in the not-too-distant future come to prefer over living in the real world. The story begins when the founder of Oasis dies and offers his fortune up in a treasure hunt that brings out all kinds of contestants, including a teenager named Wade Watts, who will be played by Sheridan.

The film stars Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Simon Pegg, TJ Miller, Mark Rylance, Lena Waithe, and Ben Mendelsohn as the villain, an executive for an Internet corporation that has designs on Oasis.

The trailer sets the stage in Columbus, Ohio in 2045, with Watts saying the Oasis is “the only place that feels like I mean anything. A world where the limits of reality are your own imagination.” The screen is quickly filled with bodies floating through a purple-hued sky, Robots shooting guns, and cars zipping along busy streets.

Zak Penn wrote the screenplay. It hits theaters March 30, 2018.

Twitter is already buzzing with rumors Harley Quinn and Deadshot can be seen at the 34-second mark, and the Iron Giant is trending, with Spielberg saying the character would play a major role in the film.
