Reese Witherspoon, Sofia Vergara on the Run in ‘Hot Pursuit’ First Trailer (Video)

Anne Fletcher’s buddy comedy formerly worked under the title “Don’t Mess With Texas”

Reese Witherspoon and Sofia Vergara get their Thelma and Louise on — reluctantly — in the first trailer for buddy action comedy “Hot Pursuit.”

Anne Fletcher directed the which MGM and Warner Bros film written by John Quaintance and David Feeney.

Witherspoon plays an uptight police officer who is tasked with escorting Vergara’s character, a key witness in a drug cartel trial, across Texas to testify. Naturally, things go awry almost immediately and the two are forced to go on the run together.

The shenanigans include accidental drug use, short jokes, age jokes, period jokes, and lots of gunfights and car chases. The comedy, which previously went under the working title of “Don’t Mess With Texas,” looks like it should fit right into the post-“Bridesmaids” film canon.

“Hot Pursuit” will be released on May 8.
