"I can’t tell you how excited I am that Regis will be a recurring special guest on our show this season," Ray said in a statement. "Regis has been a close friend of the show and a close friend of mine for years and it’ll be a blast having him on the team.”

Philbin will make his debut as recurring guest Monday, Sept. 24.

As far as gigs go, this is a relatively cushy one for renowned workaholic Philbin. The longtime television personality told USA Today that he will drop in on a monthly basis to break bread and chat it up with Ray.

"I'm not a co-host, I'm just a guy showing up on her show once a month." Philbin told the paper. "I love the idea. It's fun to be back on TV when you don't have to do it every day."

After a season of guest hosts, Philbin's seat on "Live" alongside co-host Kelly Ripa was filled by former NFL player Michael Strahan. The rechristened "Live! With Kelly and Michael" premiered earlier this month.
