Reports: Vivendi Holding up Comcast Deal

French conglomerate said to be at impasse with GE over value of NBC Universal.

Vivendi’s impasse with General Electric over the value of NBC Universal may be holding up Comcast’s bid to take over the peacock.

Vivendi retained a 20 percent stake in Universal Studios after selling the majority to GE in 2004. The French conglomerate and GE are anywhere from $500 million-$1 billion apart in their valuation of NBC U,  according to reports in the Financial Times and elsewhere.

GE needs to buy back Vivendi’s stake to proceed with its plan to sell 51 percent of NBC U to Comcast.
