Richard Dreyfuss will be joining the Showtime's suburban drug dealer series "Weeds" for at least four episodes.
Showtime's Wednesday morning announcement of the casting was typically cryptic, saying only that Drefyuss will play "an unexpected character" from the past of "Weeds" protagonist Nancy Botwin.
Though Dreyfuss is best known for his roles in films such as "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and "Jaws," he has racked up some impressive small screen appearances. The Oscar-winning actor made his first TV appearance in 1965 and has a resume packed with spots on classic shows including "Gidget," "Bewitched," "Gunsmoke" and "The Mod Squad."
Dreyfuss' CBS drama "The Education of Max Bickford" was a relatively short-lived effort, lasting 22 episodes from 2001-2002.
Most of the other guest stars lined up for the upcoming season of "Weeds" fall into the same "blast from the past" category as Dreyfuss. Showtime has also lined up "Terminator" star Linda Hamilton and "Saved By The Bell's" Mark-Paul Gosselaar to appear on the show long with returning guest stars Alanis Morissette and Jennifer Jason Leigh.
Season six of "Weeds" premieres August 16.
