Rick Sanchez’s Wife Blames ‘Exhaustion’ for His Meltdown

The anchor apologized to Jon Stewart on Monday after he called the “Daily Show” host “a bigot” in a controversial radio interview

Exhaustion from working 14-hour days was the cause behind Rick Sanchez's emotional radio outburst on Sept. 30, and he's since apologized to Jon Stewart personally, his wife said Monday in a wall post on her Facebook page.

Suzanne Sanchez said the ex-CNN anchor was attempting to "make a broader point" when he accused CNN brass of discrimination, called Jon Stewart "a bigot" and implied that Jews control the media.

Rick Sanchez has stayed out of the public eye since went on the controversial satellite radio rant. He was fired by the cable news network on Friday.

On her Facebook wall, Suzanne Sanchez revealed that her husband had a private conversation with Stewart on Monday.

"rick apologized to jon stewart today.they had a good talk. jon was gracious and called rick, 'thin-skinned.' he's right," she wrote.

Suzanne's post blamed the incident on Rick's "exhaustion" from spending three hours a day on-air.

"rick feels horrible that in an effort to make a broader point about the media, his exhaustion from working 14 hr days for 2 mo. straight, caused him to mangle his thought process inartfully. he got caught up in the banter and deeply apologizes to anyone who was offended by his unintended comments," wrote Suzanne.

Rick Sanchez began hosting his two-hour weekday afternoon "Rick's List" block in January. In July, he picked up an additional hour in primetime when the network tapped him as a temporary replacement after the departure of Campbell Brown. During his tenure at CNN, Rick Sanchez was frequently the butt of Stewart's jokes.

Whatever was said between the two men on Monday, it didn't stop the Stewart from making fun of the Sanchez one last time on Monday night's "Daily Show."

Update (12:49 a.m.) An earlier version of this post labeled this story an exclusive. We have now identified an earlier posting with Suzanne Sanchez's comments on the blog Breaking News Hound. The blog post did not come up in Google Web, News or blog searches and I was unaware of it when I initially wrote this post.
