Ricky Gervais on ‘Ellen’: ‘I Don’t Think I Was Nasty’ at Golden Globes (Video)

"It wasn't a room full of wounded soldiers. These are the richest, most privileged people in the world."

If Ricky Gervais didn't think his comments as last year's Golden Globes host were nasty, we cannot wait to see what he has in store this year.

That's what Gervais tells Ellen DeGeneres on her daytime talk show Thursday: "I don't think I was nasty," Gervais said of his controversial hosting gig last year. "If they saw my stand-up, their heads would explode. People say 'Is there anything you shouldn't joke about?' I don't think there is. I just think it depends what the joke is. Comedy comes from either a good or a bad place, and I was just teasing them, you know.  It wasn't a room full of wounded soldiers. These are the richest, most privileged people in the world."

Gervais also tells DeGeneres — a People's Choice Award winner as Favorite Daytime TV Host Wednesday night — the real reason he decided to return for a third appearance as Globes host.

"I wasn't going to do it again, but there was loads of people in the press saying I'd never be invited back, and that's why I said yes."

Check out Gervais' chat with DeGeneres, in which he also says he was shocked by the reaction to last year's show:
