‘RightThisMinute’ Host: How Viral Video Show Became a Huge Hit (Video)

“We’re not only showing the fails and the pranks,” Beth Troutman tells TheWrap. “Our show covers everything that is the internet”

Behold the power of the viral video.

Nationally syndicated talk show “RightThisMinute,” which sets out to find interesting online videos and explore the details behind them — often with Skype interviews — has been the No. 1 new syndicated show in the country since November.

“RTM” prides itself on regularly finding videos when they have 100 views — which often skyrocket to 1 million after being featured on the show.

“We’re not only showing the fails and the pranks … but there’s also a news component to the show,” host Beth Troutman (“Fox News Rising”) told TheWrap, in studio to discuss the rise of her show and how it fits in with HLN’s new primetime lineup.

“Everyone has a camera now, so they’re recording news as it happens. Our show covers everything that is the internet.”

“RightThisMinute” spans 151 markets — or roughly 85-90 percent of the country. The Cox, Scripps and Raycom partnership, syndicated by MGM, was also the first acquisition for HLN’s rebranding.

HLN makes up 12 percent of the show’s viewership.

Not only is the show quite wide at this point, it is also very large in certain major markets. On San Francisco’s KTVU, “RightThisMinute” is the No. 1 rated show from news to primetime.
