Rihanna will also receive the first-ever Icon Award at the 2013 American Music Awards in November. The award was created to honor an artist whose work has influenced pop music on a global level.
The singer has also been added to the long list of performers taking the stage for the awards telecast.
“Rihanna's iconic and innovative sound has enabled her to become one of the most influential and best-selling artists of all time,” producer Larry Klein said.
Out of 7 albums released in 7 years, the “Umbrella” singer has scored 12 number-one singles, and won 6 Grammy Awards. She has sold 50 million albums and 180 million digital tracks worldwide.
Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, One Direction, TLC, Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Imagine Dragons, Ke$ha and this year's host, Pitbull, are among the other high-profile performers committed to the show produced by Dick Clark Productions.
The AMAs will be broadcast live on ABC from Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE in downtown Los Angeles on Nov. 24.
