Looney Tunes Wile E. Coyote shortsThe popular Looney Tunes characters will be back in three-minute animated 3D shorts, to run ahead of Warner Bros. 3D features this year.

The shorts will be seen with “Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore,” opening July 30; “Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole,” bowing Sept. 24; and “Yogi Bear,” opening Dec. 17.

The announcement was made Thursday by Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. Pictures’ president of domestic distribution.

Bringing the classic characters into the 21st century, Warner Bros. said, the resourceful Wile E. will employ an arsenal of state-of-the-art ACME gadgets to snag his quarry — with all of the action in stereographic 3D.

“Audiences have always delighted in Wile E. Coyote’s dogged pursuit of the Road Runner, with hilarious, albeit predictable, results," Fellman said in a statement. "We are thrilled to be presenting these characters for the first time in 3D, which will heighten the excitement and humor of the chase, not to mention the impact — at least for Wile E."
