Rob Marshall Signs on to Direct Johnny Depp’s ‘Thin Man’ Remake

Marshall directed Depp in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”

Rob Marshall is on board to direct the Warner Bros. remake of the comedy-crime movie "The Thin Man," starring Johnny Depp, they confirmed Monday.

Marshall directed Depp in "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," which hits theaters May 20. He will also produce, along with John DeLuca.

Depp gets the part of Nick Charles, a former detective who, with his wealthy wife, Nora, solves a murder mystery.

The part of Nora hasn't been cast, but is sure to be sought-after.

William Powell played Nick in the 1934 original, and Myrna Loy played Nora.

Marshall and DeLuca will produce through their Lucamar Productions. The company joins Infinitium Nihill Company and Langley Park Pictures.

Depp and Christi Dembrowski are producing for Infinitum Nihil and Kevin McCormick is producing for Langley Park.

Jerry Stahl, a consultant and writer on CBS's "CSI," and writer of "Bad Boys II" is writing. "The Thin Man" is based on the Dashiell Hammett novel.

"The Thin Man" is set for a 2013 release.

The same year, "Pirates of the Caribbean 5" is set to be released. Depp's "The Lone Ranger" is scheduled to hit theaters in 2014. He also has a small part in 2012's "21 Jump Street."
