Roger Ebert Says Online Blizzard Video Deserves Oscar (video)

Ebert praises "Man with a Tripod" homage for beauty, speed

A New York City filmmaker who shot an homage to the 1929 silent film "Man with a Movie Camera" during the city's blizzard sent it to Roger Ebert — and impressed him so much that the critic says the online video deserves an Academy Award.

"This film deserves to win the Academy Award for best live-action short subject," Ebert wrote on his blog. "(1) Because of its wonderful quality. (2) Because of its role as homage. It is directly inspired by Dziga Vertov's 1929 silent classic 'Man With a Movie Camera.' (3) Because it represents an almost unbelievable technical proficiency."

Jamie Stuart shot the film called "Man in a Blizzard" or "Idiot with a Tripod" in his Astoria neighborhood during the blizzard Sunday, and sent it to Ebert the next day. It is also posted on YouTube — and now here:
