Roger Ebert's 2011 memoir "Life Itself" has been optioned for the silver screen, the critic tweeted Friday morning.
"Whoa," he wrote at 10:38 a.m. "My memoir is being optioned for a doc."
The documentary, which will be produced by Film Rites' Garrett Basch, will feature Martin Scorsese, "Gangs of New York" writer Steven Zaillian and "Hoop Dreams" director Steve James.

Scorsese and Zaillian will executive-produce the project, which they hope to begin filming soon.
The memoir follows the film critic's battle with thyroid cancer that prevented him from eating, drinking or speaking as well as his alcoholism, marriage, political stances and spirituality.
