Roland Martin Says He’s Exiting CNN Next Month

Roland Martin says he's done at CNN because the "new boss wants his own peeps"

Sometimes controversial CNN commentator Roland Martin will be leaving the news network next month.

Martin revealed his departure via his Twitter account, writing, " yes, last day at @cnn is April 6."

Martin's announcement comes in the wake of Jeff Zucker taking over as the head of CNN Worldwide, a development that Martin appeared to allude to while replying to another Twitter user.

"New boss wants his own peeps," Martin said.

A spokeswoman for CNN has not yet responded to TheWrap's request for comment.

Martin's tenure at CNN has not been without its hiccups. Early last year, Martin was suspended from the news network after he published tweets during the Super Bowl that were criticized by GLAAD and others as homophobic.

"If a dude at your Super Bowl party is hyped about David Beckham's H&M underwear ad, smack the ish out of him!" he said in one tweet. In another, Martin wrote, "Who the hell was that New England Patriot they just showed in a head to toe pink suit? Oh, he needs a visit from #teamwhipdatass."

"Roland Martin's tweets were regrettable and offensive," the network said in a statement announcing his suspension. "Language that demeans is inconsistent with the values and culture of our organization, and is not tolerated.
