Rosamund Pike in Negotiations to Star in ‘The Mountains Between Us’

Hany Abu-Assad is directing the movie for Fox 2000 and Chernin Entertainment

Rosamund Pike is in negotiations to star opposite Charlie Hunnam in “The Mountains Between Us,” which is set up at Fox 2000 and Chernin Entertainment, TheWrap has learned.

Hany Abu-Assad is directing the movie, which is based on the novel by Charles Martin.

Story follows a doctor (Hunnam) and a writer (Pike) who is engaged to be married who both survive a plane crash in the mountains. The doctor suffers broken ribs while she sustains a leg fracture, and he must use his climbing skills to get her down the mountain to safety.

Chernin Entertainment’s Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping are producing the film, which was written by J. Mills Goodloe and Scott Frank. Fox 2000 executive Marisa Paiva is overseeing the project on behalf of the studio.

Production will likely begin in late 2015, as Pike will need time to recover from her current pregnancy, while Hunnam will spend early 2015 filming Guy Ritchie‘s King Arthur movie.

Pike has emerged as a strong Oscar contender thanks to her eye-opening performance in David Fincher‘s “Gone Girl,” which has grossed $319 million worldwide. She’s repped by CAA, Magnolia Entertainment and United Agents.
