'Enraged' Roseanne Barr Attacks Hollywood In Profanity-Laced Twitter Rant Over TV Show

…But explains it saying she was drunk tweeting. Hey, we've all been there, Roseanne!

Roseanne Barr is not happy with Hollywood, and she's been tweeting her rage at the television establishment on Saturday, at one point threatening to quit television completely and take up “geriatric porn.”

In a series of profanity-laced tweets (those reading further are duly warned), Barr complained that she'd been shut out of the development of her new television show, and threatened in a tweet: “I'm never going to work in television again. I'm never going to even attempt it. I feel as if I've been insulted/assaulted for over a year.”

She tweeted that the “development process went like this: show runner disappeared for 7 weeks-never returned any calls from me-I was told she ‘goes in2 a cave',” and then became unavailable… That was the first thing that happened after I signed on 2 ‘collaborate'.”

And: “Not ONE word remained of any ideas I had. I was constantly ‘corrected’ as if I had no track record whatsoever. I'm enraged over all of it.”

It was not immediately clear what show in development Barr was referring to but the actress has a deal to collaborate with “Nurse Jackie” co-creator and former showrunner Linda Wallem on a multicamera family comedy for NBC.  Barr signed a production deal with Universal TV in January to develop a starring vehicle for NBC.

She added in disgust: “the women in hollywood cannot fall to their knees to suck dick fast enough.”

“One thing I've learned in Hollywood-every time someone tells me I'm a genius-tht means I am going to get fucked,” she tweeted on Saturday morning.

Barr's last show was a reality program for Lifetime called “Roseanne's Nuts,” about life on her macadamia nut and livestock farm in Hawaii, which aired from July 13, 2011, to September 16, 2011.

In her rant of more than a dozen tweets, Barr admitted that she did have “mental health issues.” She added: “Decent ppl refrain from bullying, lying to, manipulating & taking advantage of ppl like me.”

She then concluded in a late morning Saturday tweet: “anyway, no more drunk tweeting late at night for me!” However, she continued tweeting after that, and the insults to Hollywood did not abate: “i forgot! the sexism and classism of hollywood is matched by its racism and homophobia-all of which is dwarfed by its psychopathology,” she tweeted at about 2 pm PST.

And shortly before that came: “Hollywood's always trying to kill their own stars-whether creatively or physically-burying them under psychic stress, greed and gas lighting.”

An email to Barr to place the tweets in context was not immediately answered.

It must be exhausting to be that angry all the time. Maybe she should try therapy and medication

  • Jawsphobia

More than likely she is right. They likely claim to build a show around a noted TV personality to get the project under way, but they should be more up front if they only intend to treat her as an actor. If she just walked without commenting like this, it would be spun so she looks like the problem. She makes some good points.

Now claim everyone involved molested you, Ros. Isn't that your go-to move?

“Everytime someone tells me I'm a genius, it means I'm going to get f-d”

LOL. When will execs learn to stop meddling and let creatives do what they do.

  • hupto

Well, she's not entirely wrong. Remember when ABC told Margaret Cho she wasn't right to play herself?

Methinks Roseanne is just experiencing something called “Karma.” For those who remember her back at the peak of her popularity/power, Roseanne was a horrible, foul-mouthed, abusive dictator. Those who worked for her while she had her show, “Roseanne,” are probably still in therapy. She was given a huge gift with that show, but she treated people so badly and went on such an ego/power trip (with her then partner Tom Arnold) that she alienated pretty much everyone is Hollywood. She can't blame anyone but herself for that fall from grace – although I'm sure she blames the old white-boy network, etc. Now, she's an old, washed-up comedienne who is no longer relevant – and no one cares any more. Sorry, Roseanne – tough luck. If you treat people like absolute crap, you'll learn that what goes around comes around.

She wasn't “given a gift” of a show. Networks aren't in the business of gifting shows. She earned that show and delivered a ratings hit and iconic show to the network. It takes an abrasive personality for a woman to make it like that – no matter how you act, they'll call you “crazy” when you assert yourself. Roseanne knows that. Abusive dictatorial men are plentiful in Hollywood but no one expresses outrage about them. Do you express such outrage at the men who sexually exploit and abuse their power in exchange for sex, especially to minors? That's really abusive. Doubtful you do.

Fact is, audiences don't care about your work experience. Hollywood has become more juvenile than ever, putting quality of product behind working with their pals. Audiences just want a great show. Roseanne made a great show. Would she again? Who knows. It would be nice to have a great show on tv. But it does sound like you still very much care.

Off or on meds, drunk or not, got to love Roseanne! She pulls no punches.

    2 questions
is that fat heap still alive ?
does anyone give a shit what she thinks ?

    • lsc

Your absolut. right with your comment. RB is a washed up heap of self that has no past present or future in or on any screen. She may have one talent in her own words, “SR. Porn.” Solo of course.

Wait…Hollywood is “homophobic”? Seriously? If homosexuality were apples, Hollywood would be Johnny Appleseed. If it were a disease, Hollywood would be Typhoid Mary. I'm not saying Hollywood isn't full of scumbags, but c'mon- the entertainment industry is all about the gay.
