‘Rosewood’ Picked Up for Full Season by Fox

Morris Chestnut drama serves as Wednesday lead-in to hit series “Empire”

Fox has upped its “Rosewood” order from 13 episodes to a full season of 22, solidifying a consistent Wednesday night through the fall and winter.

“‘Rosewood’ has proven to be a real self-starter for us, which is a tremendous feat on this highly competitive night,” David Madden, president, Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company, said. “Todd Harthan, Morris (Chestnut), Jaina (Lee Ortiz), Lorraine (Toussaint) and the entire cast and crew have done a fantastic job creating a gorgeous, sexy world that is the perfect complement to ‘Empire.’

“The upcoming episodes are so compelling as we build out the family dynamics, and with today’s order, we’re excited to explore the world of ‘Rosewood’ even further this season,” he continued.

Last week, “Rosewood” got an order for three more scripts from Fox. It didn’t take long for the network to up that confidence in its lead-in for crown jewel “Empire.”

Per Nielsen’s most current ratings — which include seven-day delayed viewing where available — “Rosewood” is averaging a 2.2/8 in the key 18-49 demographic, as well as 7.3 million viewers thus far this fall. Those numbers are decent for fourth-place Fox, though not great in a broader sense. The show also didn’t light it up with critics in its initial reception.

“Rosewood” does not see much delayed viewing when compared to other new dramas.

“Rosewood” is from Temple Hill in association with 20th Century Fox Television. The series was created by Harthan. The series is executive-produced by Harthan, Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen. Richard Shepard served as director and executive producer on the pilot.

On the next episode, “Necrosis and New Beginnings,” Rosewood (Chestnut) and Villa (Lee Ortiz) make it their mission to seek justice for a murder victim who was an ex-con with ties to a Little Haiti gang.

Meanwhile, Villa struggles with passionate dreams she’s been having about Rosewood, forcing her to explore in her therapy sessions with Kat (guest star Nicole Ari Parker) why she’s having these romantic feelings for him. Things come to a head between Villa, Rosewood and Kat, which forces an unexpected turn in Rosewood’s relationships with both women.

“Rosewood” airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on Fox.
