Rupert Murdoch Tweets Shot at Scientology: ‘Creepy, Evil’

News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch says on Twitter that there is "big, big money involved with Tom Cruise" and takes on Mormons and Mitt Romney

What do Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Mitt Romney and Scientology all have in common?

Sunday they were all Twitter topics for News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch. The 81-year-old mogul took on Mormons too, but they didn't get his hackles up.

"Scientology back in news. Very weird cult, but big, big money involved with Tom Cruise either number two or three in hierarchy," he tweeted Sunday morning. Murdoch's messages come on the heels of Friday's announcement that the actor and his wife Katie Holmes were divorcing.

He followed that up with another: "Watch Katie Holmes and Scientology story develop. Something creepy, maybe even evil, about these people."

His comments drew a wave of responses, pro and con, to which Murdoch responded: "Since Scientology tweet hundreds of attacks. Expect they will increase and get worse and maybe threatening. Still stick to my story."

He may have his problems with Scientology, but not with Mormonism. When a follower asked his thoughts, Murdoch tweeted: "Mormonism a mystery to me, but Mormons certainly not evil."

However, one high-profile Mormon — presidential candidate Mitt Romney — isn't making a great impression with Murdoch.

"Met Romney last week. Tough O Chicago pros will be hard to beat unless he drops old friends from team and hires some real pros. Doubtful," he wrote.

He added: "US election is referendum on Obama, all else pretty minor."
