Foodies, take note: Ruth Reichl will not be the next editor of Newsweek. And she’s not going to the National Journal, either.
Reichl, former editor of Gourmet, is headed to Random House, where she’ll write books, and edit them, too.
The book publisher named Reichl editor-at-large on Thursday, nearly a year after Condé Nast shocked the magazine and food industries by closing Gourmet and kicking Reichl to the curb. (At the time, Reichl said she was “stunned” by the move.)
“I’m especially excited to have the opportunity to participate in the future of food writing as both an author and a book editor,” Reichl said in a statement announcing the move. “At Random House I’ll have the opportunity to connect to food lovers in print, and to participate in the ever-expanding digital world.”
Reichl's contract calls for three books as an author — and two are already in the works: “The Tao of Ruth,” a cookbook, and a novel called “Delicious!”
