Ryan Dunn’s Blood-Alcohol Level Double Legal Limit at Time of Crash

“Jackass” star had a blood-alcohol level of .196, was going at least 132 mph, police say

"Jackass" star Ryan Dunn had a blood-alcohol concentration of .196, more than double the legal limit, and was going at least 132 mph when he was killed in a fiery car crash, police said Wednesday.

Dunn, 34, drank for hours in a bar prior to the crash early Monday that killed him and his passenger, 30-year-old Zachary Hartwell. Dunn's Porsche 911 flew over a guardrail, hit a tree, and burst into flames, said West Goshen, Pa., police.

Police said Dunn was believed to be speeding at between 132 and 140 mph. No "drugs of abuse" were detected in his system, however.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported, meanwhile, that Dunn has 23 traffic citations in the 13 years before his death, including for DUI. The DUI charges were dropped after he completed a probationary program and received a suspended license, the paper said.

Police said Dunn had a valid license at the time of the crash.

Also Wednesday, a man who drank with Dunn in the hours before his crash described Dunn's final binge in an interview with The Daily, saying he saw Dunn down four shots and beer before getting behind the wheel. Dunn had posted a picture of himself and Hartwell drinking at a bar (above) just hours before the crash.

The disclosure of Dunn's BAC brings a decisive end to the debate about whether he was in any condition to drive.

Dunn's friend and "Jackass" cohort, Bam Margera, lashed out at film critic Roger Ebert after Ebert tweeted that "Friends don't let jackasses drink and drive."

Ebert responded Tuesday by offering his sympathy to Dunn's loved ones on his blog and saying, "I have no way of knowing if Ryan Dunn was drunk at the time of his death."
