Ryan Murphy’s ‘The New Normal,’ J.J. Abrams’ ‘Revolution’ Ordered to Series by NBC (Update)

Comedy from Murphy and Allison Adler portrays a blended family of a gay couple and surrogate mom; "Revolution" stars "Breaking Bad" baddie Giancarlo Esposito

NBC gave series orders Monday to the comedy pilot "The New Normal," from "Glee" co-creator Ryan Murphy and co-executive producer Allison Adler, and the J.J. Abrams-produced drama "Revolution."

The comedy focuses on a blended family created by a gay couple and a surrogate mother. The single-camera series, from 20th Century Fox TV and Ryan Murphy Productions, is executive produced by Murphy, Adler, and Dante Di Loreto.

It stars Andrew Rannells, Justin Bartha, Georgia King, Bebe Wood, and Ellen Barkin. Jayson Blair will recur.

"Revolution," from Warner Bros. Television and Bad Robot, takes place in a world where characters struggle to survive and find their loved ones after all forms of energy mysteriously cease to exist. It is written by "Supernatural" creator Eric Kripke and is executive produced by Abrams, Kripke, Bryan Burk and Jon Favreau. The "Iron Man" director will also helm the first episode.

The cast includes Anna Lise Phillips, Graham Rogers, former "Breaking Bad" star Giancarlo Esposito (pictured), Tracy Spiradakos, Billy Burke, Zak Orth, Tim Guinee, Andrea Roth, JD Pardo and
David Lyons.

Earlier Monday, NBC announced a series order for the pilot Anne Heche pilot, "Save Me," in which she will play a woman in a broken marriage who becomes her best self and performs miracles. NBC has also ordered the Matthew Perry pilot "Go On" and the drama "Hannibal," about the early years of "Silence of the Lamb" villain Hannibal Lecter.

NBC will announce the rest of its drama and comedy slate on Sunday, the day before its upfront presentation to advertisers.
