WGN America is preparing to launch its first original scripted series, “Salem,” in spring 2014, and judging from a teaser for the new series, one thing is evident: There are many creative — and brutal — methods for torturing accused witches.
A red-hot brand to the forehead? Yup. Underwater submersion? Uh-huh. Nooses a-plenty? Oh, yes.

Created, executive-produced and written by Brannon Braga (“24,” “Star Trek: The Next Generation”) and Adam Simon (“The Haunting in Connecticut”), “Salem” delves into the most notorious witch trials in history, as 17th century Massachusetts is gripped by fear, suspicion and hysteria. In the series, witches are real, but they aren’t who or what they seem.
