‘Salt’ Writer Kurt Wimmer Sells Spec Script ‘Matthew 21’ to Thunder Road

Bill Block’s QED is partnering with Basil Iwanyk’s banner to produce the movie

“Salt” screenwriter Kurt Wimmer has sold his spec script “Matthew 21” to Thunder Road, which will partner with QED to produce the film, TheWrap has learned.

Wimmer is attached to direct the movie, which is expected to be produced by Basil Iwanyk (“The Town”) and Bill Block (“Alex Cross”).

Plot details remain under wraps, though Wimmer provided TheWrap with an exclusive quote that illuminates the theme of the story.

“‘Matthew 21’ is the next chapter in the theme that has informed my entire career as a writer — from “Equilibrium” to “Salt” — the journey of the machine to become human.”

Wimmer adapted Michael Crichton’s “Sphere” and penned “The Thomas Crown Affair” remake before making his directorial debut with 2002’s underrated Christian Bale vehicle “Equilibrium.” The last film he directed 2006’s Milla Jovovich action movie “Ultraviolet.”

Since then, Wimmer has written “Street Kings,” “Law Abiding Citizen,” “Salt,” “Total Recall” and Alcon’s upcoming “Point Break” remake, which he’s also producing.

Wimmer is represented by CAA and attorney John LaViolette.
