Like many in Hollywood, Samantha Bee took to Twitter Thursday during the Senate Intelligence Committee’s hearing of former FBI Director James Comey… and now she’s the one under fire.
Responding to a Donald Trump, Jr. tweet questioning why Comey continued to take Trump’s phone calls if he told Attorney General Jeff Sessions he didn’t want to be left alone with the POTUS, the “Full Frontal” host wrote, “This is basically a domestic abuse case.”
Sen Blunt: If you told Sessions you didn't want to be alone with Trump again, why did you continue to take his calls?

And the fire Twitter firestorm began. Soon after Bee’s tweet was posted, Twitter users reacted. “As someone who has friends that have been victims of domestic abuse, you should be ashamed of yourself for drawing this correlation!” one user tweeted. Others chimed in, saying that it was offensive to use domestic abuse as a joke.
As someone who has friends that have been victims of domestic abuse, you should be ashamed of yourself for drawing this correlation! #SHAME

Loathsome commentary from a loathsome "human"

Others still came to Bee’s defense.
I experienced domestic abuse in my first marriage. I have zero problem with her comparison. The more it's discussed, the better.

This isn't trivializing domestic abuse, but rather highlighting the lack of consent Donald applies to every person & situation in his life.

And others still just didn’t care.

Is she famous for anything I would recognize? #whydoicare

As of the time this article was published, Bee hasn’t responded to the backlash.
