Sarah Greenberg Roberts Seeks to Exit Publicity at Weinstein Co (Exclusive)

Sara Greenberg Roberts, who joined the Weinstein Company less than two years ago, has asked to be released from her contract

Harvey Weinstein will soon be in the market for a new publicity chief.

Sarah Greenberg Roberts, who joined The Weinstein Company less than two years ago, has asked to be released from her contract, TheWrap has learned.

Stephen Bruno remains head of marketing.

Greenberg Roberts' move is somewhat unusual, considering that she was around for the company’s historic, back-to-back Best Picture wins at the Oscars, with “The King’s Speech” followed by “The Artist.”

And her decision to depart comes at an unlikely time for the company.

Greenberg Roberts has a contract through December but is negotiating with the Weinsteins for an early exit, possibly as early  as after the Cannes Film Festival this month.

One knowledgeable individual said The Weinstein Company had already started the process of looking for her replacement, despite the contract.

The Weinstein Company declined to comment, and Greenberg Roberts could not be reached for comment.

Greenberg Roberts came from the more genteel environment of Lionsgate, where she ran publicity and then marketing for seven years, and may have suffered a culture shock at the rough-and-tumble Weinstein Company.

But she’ll be missing out on another remarkable slate from the independent film company, including Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained,” Paul Thomas Anderson’s new, still-untitled project and David O. Russell’s new intimate drama, “Silver Linings.”

Editor's note: An earlier version of this story said that Greenberg Roberts was leaving a position in marketing, which is headed by Stephen Bruno. TheWrap regrets the error.
