Schwarzenegger Announces ‘The Governator’ Cartoon: The Movie

Schwarzenegger announces animated version of himself will be a movie star, too

Because a TV show and comic book are never enough, Arnold Schwarzenegger announced Monday that his new "Governator" animated alter-ego will also be in movies.

The announcement came just days after Schwarznegger and Stan Lee, who is co-developing the character, announced that "The Governator" character would get a TV show and comic book. It will also have an online presence, he said.

“You will see more action in this series than you have ever seen before, but combined with comedy,” Scwarzenegger said at the MIPTV content market in Cannes."This will not be a violent show. If you look at my movies, a lot of heads come off! That is not what this is."

"The Governator" character is an animated — scratch that, more animated — version of the action icon. It features Schwarzenegger moonlighting as a crimefighter while leading the great state of California.

He said he would miss some aspects of politics — “every 30 minutes there’s another appointment, and you meet some interesting people" — but that he looks forward to the character taking up his time.

“I think that The Governator is a great replacement in a way. I was looking for, when I am finished with politics, to come up with something that would be a big surprise,” he said. “Everyone has been ‘wow, I didn’t expect that at all’.”

He aso said he hopes the series will have international reach. "I think the people in Africa ought to be entertained as much as the people in America, or Australia, or Europe," he said.

“None of us looks at this as a moneymaking thing," he added. "If it is successful, the money will come anyway… The most important thing is how can you create a character that no one has ever seen before?”

The project is a collaboration between A Squared Entertainment, Archie Comics and Stan Lee’s POW! Entertainment.
