Screen Media Sets 2012 Slate

New president Suzanne Blech’s initial slate of seven pictures includes a western, a documentary and a comedy

Screen Media's lineup for 2012 includes seven films — including a comedy, a documentary and a western, the company said Wednesday.

It is Screen Media's first slate under new president Suzanne Blech (below).

The company plans to add more movies in the next few months. For now, though, it has five movies planned for release in the spring and two in the summer.

The spring films are:

>>  "Good for Nothing," a western directed by Mike Wallis and starring Inge Rademeyer and Cohen Holloway.

>> "American Animal," a comedy about a terminally ill young man whose life of casual sex, drinking and board games is derailed when his best friend and roommate gets a job. Matt D'Elia directed the movie and stars in it with Brendan Fletcher, Mircea Monroe and Angela Sarafyan.

>> "A Happy Event," a comedic drama adapted from Eliette Abecassis' novel. The movie, directed by Remi Bezancon, is about the struggles two adults face as they encounter pregnancy and parenthood. Josiane Balasko, Thierry Fremont, Pio Marmai and Louise Bourgoin star.

>> "L'Assault," the true story of the 1994 hijacking of Air France flight 8969 in Algiers, Algeria. The movie, directed by Julien LeClerq, stars Vincent Elbaz.

>> "Mamitas," a coming-of-age film directed by Nicholas Ozeki and starring E.J. Bonilla, Veronica Diaz-Carranza and Jennifer Esposito.

The summer movies are:

>> "Wild Horse Wild Ride," a documentary about the Extreme Mustang Makeover Challenge, an annual contest that challenges people to tame wild mustangs. Alex Dawson directed.

>> "Snow on Tha Bluff," the story of Atlanta thief and crack dealer Curtis Snow, who stole a camera during a drug deal and made a documentary of his life. Damon Russell directed the movie, which Chris Knittel and Snow wrote.

Blech, who became president of Screen Media last fall, will be at the Sundance Film Festival to acquire new projects.
