‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ Star Shawn Ashmore: ‘I've Been Waiting to See Bobby Drake Do His Thing’ (Video)

In the latest edition of TheWrap's Dining With the Stars, the superhero franchise's Iceman geeks out about his character's storyline

Cool down, Iceman fans: “X-Men: Days of Future Past” star Shawn Ashmore promises that the beloved comic-book hero is back and better than ever in the new installment of the mutant superhero franchise.

In the latest edition of TheWrap's Dining with the Stars, Ashmore geeks out with Greg Gilman over his character's evolving storyline.

“X-Men” fans were a little frostbitten when their favorite comic book hero, Bobby Drake/Iceman, was only given a brief cameo in the first “X-Men” (2002), and his powers remained relatively untapped until “X-Men: The Last Stand” (2006).

“In the first ‘X-Men’ I had to make a rose for Rogue,” Ashmore explains. “But that was the extent of the character, so it's cool to see over these four movies going from that to X2 — where you sort of see him do an Icewall — and in X3 he finally gets to battle, and in ‘Days of Future Past’ we're soldiers.”

Audiences can catch a glimpse of the new, sleek and digitally designed Iceman in the film's new trailer, which Ashmore had been anticipating as eagerly as the fans.

“I grew up reading ‘X-Men’ comics,” he says, “and ‘Days of Future Past’ was such a great important storyline for those characters.  I was super excited, and honestly as an ‘X-Men’ fan, I've been waiting to see Bobby Drake do his thing.”
