Sheen’s ‘Anger Management’ Gets 90-Episode Order

Show hits FX's ratings threshold

FX isn't mad at Charlie Sheen: His "Anger Management" has received an order for another 90 episodes.

Under an unusual arrangement with the network, the show was assured the massive episode order if its first 10 episodes hit a certain ratings threshold. Its June 28 premiere was the most-watched primetime scripted comedy series premiere in cable history. Ratings fell for the next two weeks, then stabilized.

The show, which marked Sheen's return to television after his tumultuous exit from CBS's "Two and a Half Men," was the year's highest-rated new comedy series on cable. It averaged 4.53 million total viewers and 2.5 million adults 18-49.

Sheen has said previously that his father, Martin Sheen, would join the show if it were given another 90 episodes. The elder Sheen guested on "Anger Management" this season.

Production on the show resumes Sept. 24, and it will return to FX in January.

“We set a very high ratings bar that included some additional hurdles for 'Anger Management' to earn its back-90 order and the series met and exceed those metrics,” said Chuck Saftler, executive vice president of FX Networks. “Bruce Helford has created a sitcom that works extremely well in our pre-10 p.m. programming lineup."

Saftler continued: "Charlie Sheen and the entire cast did an amazing job in the first ten episodes, which were produced in a very tight window. I have no doubt that the producers and cast will be able to pull off the Herculean task of producing 90 episodes over the next two years.”
