Shonda Rhimes sat down with Oprah Winfrey for an interview set to air this weekend, and in a new preview released Thursday, the powerhouse showrunner reveals how 9/11 affected her in unexpected ways.

“It’s the thing that made me, once again, wake up and say, ‘If the world’s going to end tomorrow, there are things that I need to do,’” Rhimes, the executive producer behind ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Scandal” and “How to Get Away With Murder” says in the clip from “Supersoul Sunday.”

That realization, Rhimes says, is what drove her to adopt her first daughter, Harper Lee, who is now 13-years-old.

In other clips released from the episode, she explains the story behind “Year of Yes,” a memoir in which she chronicles the year in which she said “yes” to any unexpected invitations that came her way. She also explains that the commitment drove her to lose 100 pounds and transformed her relationship with her three daughters.

“Supersoul Sunday” airs Sunday, Nov. 15 at 11 a.m. on OWN.
