Showtime Renews ‘Nurse Jackie’ for Season 6

New season of "Nurse Jackie" will premiere next year

Showtime has given a sixth season to "Nurse Jackie," the network said Thursday.

The new season will premiere next year. Season 5 of the series — which stars "The Sopranos" alum Edie Falco as flawed emergency-room nurse Jackie Peyton — is currently airing on Showtime, with the season finale airing June 16.

Showtime Networks president of entertainment David Nevins  praised showrunner Clyde Phillips — who joined the series for its fifth season — while announcing the renewal.

"'Nurse Jackie' is an essential part of the Showtime brand, and we are thrilled with the series' growth in its fifth season,” Nevins said. “Under the new leadership of Clyde Phillips, and with an amazing cast led by Edie Falco, this show is as sharp and compelling and entertaining as ever. I’m excited to get to see the next chapter in Jackie’s life."
