‘Silence of the Lambs,’ ‘Birdcage’ Coming to Amazon in Deal With MGM

"Dances with Wolves" and "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" also among the new titles being offered on Prime

"Dances with Wolves," "The Birdcage" and  "The Silence of the Lambs" are coming to Amazon Prime thanks to a new content agreement with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.

Amazon's Prime Instant Video service has grown to more than 18,000 movies and TV episodes, the company  said.

At the moment, subscribers to Amazon Prime, who pay $79 annually for unlimited shipping, get the streaming service as a bonus. Yet, thanks to deals with the likes of Fox and Viacom, Amazon's service in increasingly seen as a challenger to the likes of Netflix and Hulu.

Amazon reportedly wants to grow to 7 million to 10 million subscribers over the next year. Bloomberg estimates that its tally is currently between 3 million to 5 million people.

Netflix has nearly 30 million subscribers across its shipping and DVD by mail programs.

In addition to movies, Amazon's deal with MGM includes television shows like "Thirty Something" and "Dead Like Me."

Other films included in the deal include "Rain Man," "A Fish Called Wanda" and "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly."
