Silvio Berlusconi Convicted in Underage Sex Case, Gets 7-Year Sentence

Former Italian Prime Minister found guilty in sex-for-hire case, also faces lifetime ban from politics

A Milan court has found former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi guilty of paying an underaged girl for sex, and sentenced him to seven years in jail.

Berlusconi, 76, was also banned from politics for the rest of his life — but still has two more chances to appeal the verdict before it becomes final, Reuters reported.

The billionaire politician and media tycoon was accused of paying then-minor Karmina El Mahroug for sex at one of his infamous "bunga bunga" parties.

He was also accused of abusing his power by intervening when El Mahroug was later detained by police in a separate incident when she was accused of stealing a bracelet.

Berlusconi was also convicted of tax fraud and sentenced to four years in jail last October. The first of his appeals on that verdict was turned down last week.
