Snoop Dogg’s son Cordell Broadus has quit the UCLA football team to pursue a film career.

The wide receiver’s surprising departure from the Bruins comes after he and his famous father chronicled his college recruitment as part of the ESPN docu-series “Snoop & Son: A Dad’s Dream.”

“Cordell informed me yesterday that he has decided to pursue other passions in his life — in particular his love of film through his company Film School Productions,” UCLA Coach Jim Mora said in a statement, according to the LA Times. “Cordell is an amazing young man with many talents, and we wish him nothing but the best as he continues to pursue his degree at UCLA.”

Broadus, who played at Las Vegas’ Bishop Gorman High School, has not attended UCLA’s training camp since it opened on Monday, despite committing to the school over USC, which boasts Snoop’s favorite football team.

“I just want to play in front of my family and keep ballin’ out on the field and get a great degree,” the 18-year-old said when he made his decision in February.

He was ranked 130th on ESPN’s top-300 recruit list.
