‘Social Network’ Adds More Friends: Sweeps National Society of Film Critics

Facebook movie named Best Picture; also picks up Best Director, Best Actor and Best Screenplay

“The Social Network” has walked away with another set of awards.

The National Society of Film Critics on Saturday named the Facebook movie Best Picture; its director, David Fincher, Best Director; star Jesse Eisenberg, who plays the site’s founder Mark Zuckerberg, Best Actor. Aaron Sorkin was also awarded for Best Screenplay.

The awards continue a virtual clean sweep for the Fincher, which has won critics’ awards in  Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Indiana and the National Board of Review, which also honored the film, Fincher, Eisenberg and Sorkin.

"Social Network" was also named to the American Film Insitute’s top 10.

Other winners at the National Society of Film Critics:

“Vincere’s” Giovanna Mezzogiorno was named Best Actress.

“The King’s Speech’s” Geoffrey Rush was named Best Supporting Actor, and “The Ghost Writer’s” Olivia Williams was named Best Supporting Actress.

"Inside Job" was named Best Nonfiction Film, and "Carlos" Best Foreign Language Film.

The group also called for a re-examination of the MPAA rating system and condemned Iran’s sentencing of directors Jafar Panahi and Mohammad Rasoulof.
