Sony Animation Bringing Tonka Trucks to the Big Screen

Sony and Hasbro are already making movies based on Risk and Candy Land

Sony Pictures Animation will make a movie based on Hasbro’s Tonka Trucks franchise in collaboration with Happy Madison Productions.

The animated film further binds Sony with Hasbro, as the two are producing films based on a pair of board games – “Risk” and “Candy Land.” The latter is also a Happy Madison project.

“In its 65 years, TONKA has become more than a toy or a brand – TONKA trucks are a rite of passage for kids all around the world,” Bob Osher, president of Sony Pictures Digital Productions, said in a statement. “Time spent with these toys creates memories that last a lifetime as kids are inspired to play using the boundaries of their imagination. We look forward to creating a family friendly motion picture that brings the TONKA experience to life.”

Though the beloved trucks have been around since the late 1940s, the company did not assume the "Tonka" name until 1955. In 1991, Hasbro bought the company and ten years later the toys were inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame.
