Sony Pictures has acquired the rights to a troika of spy novels from Olen Steinhauer, and attached Doug Liman to direct.
The novels chronicle Milo Weaver, an agent in the CIA who belongs to a special group of operatives called “Tourists.” They specialize in black ops, performing certain tasks in a way that few can find out who was really behind them.
Weaver dreams of exiting the organization, but assorted cases involving international criminals continue to pull him back in.
The first book in the series is “The Tourist,” not to be confused with the 2010 Johnny Depp-Angelina Jolie film. That novel debuted in 2009, while follow-ups “Nearest Exit” and “An American Spy” hit shelves in 2010 and 2012 respectively.
Liman has an established track record with spy fare, directing “The Bourne Identity,” as well as “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.”
Matt Corman and Chis Ord will pen the screenplay, which will be written as Liman shoots “All You Need is Kill.”
