Sony Pictures Classic Gets Rights to ‘Higher Ground,’ Vera Farmiga’s Directorial Debut

Farmiga also stars alongside John Hawkes

Sony Pictures Classics has acquired North America, Australia and New Zealand rights to Vera Farmiga’s directorial debut, "Higher Ground."

The film, starring Farmiga and fellow Oscar nominee John Hawkes ("Winter's Bone") was well-received at the Sundance Film Festival. Carolyn S. Briggs and Tim Metcalfe wrote the script based on Briggs' memoir “This Dark World: A Memoir of Salvation Found and Lost."

Set from the 1960s through the '80s, "Higher Ground" follows a close spiritual community through the eyes of Corrine (Farmiga). It also stars Donna Murphy and Joshua Leonard.
