Actress Sophia Loren will be the subject of a special tribute at the AFI Fest 2014, the American Film Institute announced on Wednesday.
The tribute to Loren will take place on Wed., Nov. 12, on the second-to-last day of the eight-day Hollywood festival. It will consist of a conversation with the Italian actress; a 50th anniversary restoration of the 1964 film for which she was nominated for an Oscar, “Marriage Italian Style”; and a screening of the 2014 short film “The Human Voice,” starring Loren and directed by her son, Edoardo Ponti.
Loren is the first person to win the Best Actress Oscar for a foreign-language performance, for “Two Women” in 1960. She also received an honorary Oscar in 1991 for a career that included “Houseboat,” “El Cid,” “Man of La Mancha,” “Pret-a-Porter” and “Nine.”
Loren is also featured on this year’s AFI Fest poster, in an image taken in the summer of 1965. (Detail above.)
She also served as a special guest at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
AFI Fest 2014 will take place from Nov. 6 through Nov. 13 in Hollywood. The rest of the program will be announced in coming weeks. Passes will go on sale next Tuesday, Sept. 2, with individual tickets being available free of charge for the sixth consecutive year.
