Spinal Tap Planning 2014 Tour? Christopher Guest Drops Hint

"We're talking about something for next year,'  the writer and star of rock mockumentary says

Could there be a Spinal Tap tour in the works?

“We get asked to do shows on a regular basis,” said Christopher Guest, who co-wrote and starred in the classic rock mockumentary "This is Spinal Tap." “But what I will say is that we're in the midst of talking about something for next year…”

He offered the tease in an interview with the U.K.'s the Guardian. He was there to promote his new sitcom “The Family Tree,” which is premiering on the BBC and is on HBO in the U.S.

The idea of a geriatric rock band hitting the road 30 years on – the film premiered in 1984 — isn’t so outrageous. After all, the Rolling Stones headlined this year’s Glastonbury Festival, and Spinal Tap did too, in 2009.

“We played the Pyramid Stage,’ said Guest. “There were 130,000  people there or something. Since the film 30 years ago we've gone on tour, playing Wembley, the Albert Hall, Carnegie Hall… It's weird but great. The fiction became real.”

Guest wrote and starred in the Rob Reiner-directed "This is Spinal Tap" along with Harry Shearer and Michael McKean. McKean’s fake English accent was a memorable part of the film, and he gets to do it again on “The Family Tree,” Guest said.

“It took him a little time to roll back into it,” Guest said.
