‘Stand Up to Cancer’: Gwyneth Paltrow, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, Michael Douglas Join Benefit

Group co-founded by Katie Couric has raised $180 million so far

The third Stand Up to Cancer benefit has scored another lineup of A-list stars who will ask TV viewers to contribute money to fight the disease.

Gwyneth Paltrow, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, Michael Douglas, Jessica Biel, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner, Seth Rogen, Emma Stone, Taylor Swift, Coldplay, Alicia Keys, Tim McGraw and Stand Up to Cancer co-founder Katie Couric will all participate. Couric's husband, Jay, died of  colorectal cancer in 1998.

Simon Baker, Jordana Brewster, Diem Brown, Dana Delany, Chelsea Handler, Marg Helgenberger, Rashida Jones, Minka Kelly, Joe Manganiello, Jillian Michaels, Masi Oka, Ana Maria Polo, and Alison Sweeney will also take part, the said the group, which goes by the abbreviation SU2C.

Paltrow is executive producing with Joel Gallen of Tenth Planet Productions in collaboration with SU2C’s production team. This is the first SU2C benefit not executive produced by Laura Ziskin, who died of breast cancer in June of 2011 at the age of 61.

The Sept. 7 telecast will air simultaneously on ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC, as well as BIO, E!, Encore, HBO, HBO Latino, ION Television, LMN, Logo, MLB Network, mun2, Palladia, Showtime, Smithsonian Channel, Starz, Style, TBS and VH1 at 8/7 c.

The first two SU2C telecasts, which took place on Sept. 5, 2008 and Sept. 10, 2010, were watched in more than 190 countries. The group has raised more than $180 million for cancer research. Since 2008, SU2C has donated to seven multi-disciplinary teams of researchers as well as to 26 scientists attempting high-risk, high-reward projects to end cancer's status as the world's leading killer.

SU2C is partnered with the American Association for Cancer Research, which is responsible for the scientific review, grants administration, and scientific oversight of SU2C research projects along with an advisory committee led by Nobel Laureate Phillip A. Sharp, Ph.D., institute professor at the David H. Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
