Series will follow a married combat nurse who travels back in time from 1945 to 18th century Scotland
Starz’s new time-traveling original series “Outlander” will premiere Aug. 9 at 9 p.m., the network said Thursday, while also releasing key art for the drama.
“Outlander,” executive produced by Ronald D. Moore (“Battlestar Galactica,” “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine”), follows Claire Randall (played by Caitriona Balfe). She’s a married British combat nurse from 1945 who’s transported back to 1743, where she must navigate the hidden dangers of 18th century Scotland, an unknown world where her freedom and very life are at risk.
When she is forced to marry Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior, a passionate affair is ignited that tears Claire’s heart between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.
The cast also includes Tobias Menzies, Graham McTavish, Gary Lewis, Lotte Verbeek and Duncan Lacroix.
