Starz Acquires Rights to Action Thriller ‘Momentum’

Film stars Olga Kurylenko and James Purefoy

Starz has acquired the North American rights to the action thriller “Momentum,” the company announced Thursday.

The deal comes after the film made its world premiere on Wednesday at the 2015 Fantasia International Film Festival.

“Momentum” stars Olga Kurylenko (“Quantum of Solace,” “Magic City”) and James Purefoy (“The Following”). Adam Marcus and Debra Sullivan co-wrote the script. The pair had previously collaborated on films like “Texas Chainsaw 3D” and “Conspiracy.” The film also marks the directorial debut of award-winning camera man Stephen S. Campanelli.

When Alex (Kurylenko), an infiltration expert with a secret past, accidentally reveals her identity during what should have been a routine heist, she quickly finds herself mixed up in a government conspiracy and entangled in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse with a master assassin (Purefoy) and his team of killers. Armed with her own set of lethal skills, Alex looks to exact revenge for her murdered friends while uncovering the truth.

The film was produced by Anton Ernst and Donald A. Barton. The deal was negotiated by CAA on behalf of the filmmakers.

Starz Digital plans to release the film theatrically and on demand this fall, followed by a Starz television premiere in early 2016.

Starz Digital recent releases include Dito Montiel’s “Boulevard” starring Robin Williams, Roberto Aguire, Kathy Baker and Bob Odenkirk; and, Amy Berg’s “Every Secret Thing,” starring Diane Lane, Dakota Fanning and Elizabeth Banks. Upcoming releases include Sean Mewshaw’s “Tumbledown” starring Rebecca Hall, Jason Sudeikis and Joe Manganiello.
