The series, adapted from Diana Gabaldon's book series, will begin filming this fall for a 2014 premiere. It follows Fraser as he embarks on a love affair with married World War II-era combat nurse Claire Randall, who's mysteriously transported back to 1743.

Fraser is described as a natural leader of men" who "has no political ambitions or desire for battlefield glories. Instead, he wishes to remove the price on his head and return to his family’s ancestral farm."
