Stephen Colbert and His Tony Stark Goatee Are Happy/Angry (Video)

Why Colbert looks like he’s “masturbating a tall man on a trampoline”

Stephen Colbert and his new Tony Stark goatee are thrilled/furious over the release of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl.

After a week off, Colbert returned to “The Colbert Report” Monday sporting a goatee in solidarity with billionaires like Iron Man’s alter ego. Colbert said he was both delighted and angry over the release of Bergdahl, a prisoner of the Taliban since 2009: He was happy about the release but angry Obama exchanged his freedom for that of five Taliban members who had been held at Guantanamo.

Colbert echoed the sentiments of many Republicans who have said Obama negotiated with terrorists.

“It is a victory, and a defeat,” Colbert said. “The whole situation has us pumping our fist with joy, while shaking it in anger. It’s like I’m masturbating a tall man on a trampoline.”

Later Colbert explained that he had grown the beard to face off with the episode’s guest, Thomas Piketty, author of the bestselling “Capital.” The book holds that capitalism is inherently imbalanced because the rate of growth on investments is so much greater than the rate of economic growth.
