Stephen Colbert Breaks Down Trump’s Press Conference From the ‘Seventh Circle of Hell’ (Video)

“The only thing I’m doubting right now is whether you’re still going to be president by Friday,” late-night show says

Leave it to Stephen Colbert to do a breakdown of President Trump’s press conference that’s nearly as long as what he’s ripping on — and contains just as much applause as boos.

On Tuesday night’s episode of “The Late Show,” Colbert tore into an off-the-script press conference held by the president, which not only contradicted statements he gave on Monday but backtracked to a terrible statement he made on Sunday. This included saying that not all the Charlottesville protesters were Neo-Nazis, that the counter-protesters were violent too and that race relations have gotten better since he took office.

As Colbert put it, it was a conference from “the seventh circle of hell.”

Throughout the 12-minute opening segment, the CBS late-night host looked at some of Trump’s most shocking lines, including one where he attacked the press again for not saying nice things (“if you were a better president they would’ve said something very nice”) and when he used the term “alt-left” (“the opposite of the alt-right isn’t the alt-left. It’s the not-Nazis.”)

“The only thing I’m doubting right now is whether you’re still going to be president by Friday,” Colbert said. “What the hell are you talking about?”

Many of the Trump clips were met with boos from the audience, while many of Colbert’s zingers were met with raucous applause. Not too uncommon, but the reactions were definitely louder than usual.
