Kerry Washington, Hugh Jackman, Stephen Colbert, Olivia Wilde, Salma Hayek and Deborra-Lee Furness will co-host this years Global Citizen Festival, which raises awareness to end extreme poverty.
Headlining acts playing in New York City’s Central Park at the event include Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran, Pearl Jam and Coldplay.
This year marks the festival’s fourth year and will take place on Sept. 26. The free concert will air on MSNBC, and also stream on iHeartRadio and Tidal.
“I am honored and thrilled to join Global Citizen in urging world leaders to commit to ending extreme poverty,” Colbert said in an official statement. “Finally, all that U.N. traffic will have a purpose!”
“I am very excited to be part of the Global Citizen Festival and to join our movement calling for an end to extreme poverty so that our future generations can live in a more just and equal world,” Washington added.
The festival aims to raise awareness about girls and women, food and hunger, education, global health, water, sanitation and hygiene, which the organization hopes to achieve by the hundreds of thousands of people lending their voices to the fight at the festival.
The festival is timed with the UN’s announcement of its new Global Goals, designed to fight against inequality, to protect our planet, and to end poverty by 2030. This September, world leaders from 193 countries will come together at the UN General Assembly in New York.
The Global Citizen platform was created by the Global Poverty Project in 2012. Tickets will be given to those visiting GlobalCitizen.org and participating in campaign efforts to help the poor, raise awareness, sign petitions and pushing for change.
