Stephen Colbert Worries Without Filibusters, Something Will Get Done in Washington (Video)

“We were this close to achieving a zen-like state of perfect government nothingness,” Colbert lamented

Stephen Colbert is packing up and getting the hell out of this country as quickly as possible on what he called “the last day of America” Thursday.

Why would the nation’s No. 1 fan ditch his homeland for a little-known foreign territory called “South Carolina?” Well, Senate Democrats employed the so-called “nuclear option,” effectively killing filibuster power, which has been abused by Republicans in recent years.

The ultra-conservative late night character is distraught over what he calls the “death of an American institution,” referring to filibuster power as “one of our founding principles.”

“That’s why it’s not in the Constitution,” Colbert continued. “It was going to be, but it got filibustered.”

The “Colbert Report” host is concerned that now, without the infamous stalling tactic, things might actually get done in Congress, saying, “So what’s gonna happen in Washington now — something?”

“We were this close to achieving a zen-like state of perfect government nothingness,” the comedian lamented. “Not since the Buddah have so many fat, bald men worked so hard to do so little.”
