There won't be a Colbert in Congress anytime soon.
Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch, sister of "Colbert Report" host Stephen Colbert, lost her South Carolina special Congressional election to Republican former Gov. Mark Sanford. Sanford won 54 to 45.
Colbert had supported his sister in the race, in a district that leans strongly Republican. (The two are pictured at a fundraising breakfast.)
The win was a big comeback for Sanford, who held the same seat in Congress before he became governor. His time as chief executive was marred by his admission that he left the state to carry on an affair with his then-mistress in Argentina. They are now engaged to be married.
Sanford and Colbert Busch were running to replace Tim Scott, who was named to take over the U.S. Senate seat vacated last year by Jim DeMint.
